Director: Dustin Hoffman
Running time: 98 mins Released: 4th January 2013
Dustin Hoffman makes his directorial début in this drama about how the artistic temperament fares in the advancement of years. A home for retired musicians is shaken up by the arrival of ex-opera star Jean (Maggie Smith), but she's already known to friends and former partners Reginald (Tom Courtenay), Wilfred (Billy Connolly) and Cecily (Pauline Collins). Their reunion is unwelcome at first, as spiky, egotistical Jean reopens old emotional wounds and antagonises her ex-husband Reggie. The grouchy artistic director of the home (Michael Gambon) is holding a fund-raising concert and wants the famous four to perform one of their most celebrated recordings. Can they put aside their personal issues and recreate the highlight of their career?
