About Lincoln

Daniel Day-Lewis dominates the screen in this drama focusing on Abraham Lincoln's final months in office. In 1865, the most powerful men in the country try to reconcile the abolition of slavery with the demands of Democrats and Republicans alike. Lincoln is in the middle, listening to pleas for equal pay fromblack soldiers and contemplating the most important social change in America's history. A parade of politicians (venerable character actors Tommy Lee Jones, Jackie Earl Haley and James Spader) pull Lincoln in opposing directions and his wife (Sally Field) sublimates her own ambition by driving her husband forward. It is rumoured that Day-Lewis committed to the role so deeply that he sent text messages to other cast members in character as Lincoln. Pretentious or not, he makes a legend into a living man with his nuanced portrayal.
