About Les Misérables
Big screen adaptation of one of the world's most successful and long-lasting musicals, from the director of The King's Speech. In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) has been given a harsh prison sentence for stealing. He escapes from his captors and eventually builds a new life as a wealthy man. Fantine (Anne Hathaway), a worker at his factory, gets into trouble. Her illegitimate daughter Cosette is raised by the unscrupulous Thenardiers (Helena Bonham-Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen) until the good-hearted Valjean rescues her from their clutches. Cosette grows into a beautiful young woman (Amanda Seyfried) and falls in love with a student named Marius (Eddie Redmayne). But there is a revolution coming and stalwart police inspector Javert (Russell Crowe) has never given up on catching Valjean.
