About Labor Day
Jason Reitman is known for making pithy comedy dramas like Up In The Air and Young Adult, but here he tries his hand at drama with mixed results. Adele (Kate Winslet) is a depressed single mother who lives in the countryside with her son Henry (Gattlin Griffith). One day while they are out shopping, convict Frank Chambers (Josh Brolin) approaches Henry and coerces them into taking him home. Frank has just escaped from prison where he was serving time for murder and needs somewhere to hide. While harbouring him Adele worries about what he is capable of. But over the long weekend she begins to realise that he is misunderstood and he bonds with Henry. The makeshift family wonder if perhaps they could make a new life for themselves together, but outside influences conspire to keep them apart.
