About Killing Them Softly

Brad Pitt reteams with the director of the absurdly good 'The Assassination Of Jesse James' for this gritty mob drama. In New Orleans in 2008 (as the global financial crisis breaks), small-time criminals Frankie (Scoot McNairy) and Russell (Ben Mendelsohn) rob a poker game run by Markie (Ray Liotta). Unfortunately for them, Markie has a larger plan. Hitman Cogan (Brad Pitt) is engaged to kill them by mob mouthpiece Driver (Richard Jenkins), but he is wary of completing the job, foreseeing a conflict of interests with his colleagues. So as a matter of courtesy Cogan hires fellow hitman Mickey (James Gandolfini). But nothing is simple for these broken men: Russell is a junkie slimeball, Driver is a frustrated cog in the machine, and Mickey is an alcoholic who visits prostitutes as a 'hobby.'
