About J. Edgar
An historical drama that explores the life of the first director of the Federal Bureau Of Investigation. J. Edgar Hoover (played by Leonardo Dicaprio in increasing layers of ageing prosthetics) helped to create the Bureau and remained its director until his death. His work was exceedingly important to him, and the movie explores his questionable decisions and unethical methods as well as the legacy of his triumphs. Hoover used brutality and unethical surveillance techniques to get results, but did little to fight organised crime and waged smear campaigns against liberals. The movie also touches on his alleged relationship with his deputy and room-mate Clyde Tolson (Armie Hammer) and suggests that America's policeman was hiding some big secrets. Judi Dench also stars as Hoover's domineering mother, Anna Marie.
