About In The House

Germain (Fabrice Luchini) is a grumpy old-fashioned teacher at a secondary school, living a comfortable life with his cultured but acerbic wife (Kristin Scott-Thomas). With each passing day he finds the enthusiasm of his disaffected students waning, until outsider Claude (Ernst Umhauer) submits an unusual essay. Claude has written about the life of his fellow student Rapha (Bastien Ughetto) after he successfully worms his way into his bourgeoise household. Germain is intrigued by the stories of bland perfection and eagerly encourages the boy, who is by turns creative and borderline sociopathic. But as Germain is drawn in by Claude's talent he becomes unable to separate reality from fiction and Claude appears to have designs on Rapha's bored mother (Emmanuelle Seigner).
