About Hunky Dory
A British comedy about the teachers and students at a school in Wales in 1976. During a sweltering summer, idealistic drama teacher Vivienne (Minnie Driver) decides to stage a musical version of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest', complete with pop songs. Her teenage pupils are busy dealing with feelings of alienation, friendships, and their relationships with their parents but eventually welcome the distraction and dig into their roles as a refuge from the grown-up world that awaits them in the autumn. Vivienne faces resistance from more traditional teachers who would rather the students just stick to another performance of 'Oliver,' but is determined to inject some originality into her project. Complementing the nostalgic look of the film is a feel-good soundtrack featuring David Bowie, The Beach Boys and Dusty Springfield.
