Warner Brothers attempt to recapture the magic of one of the world's most beloved creature features and obliterate the memory of the botched Godzilla reboot of the late nineties. To help, they've drafted in director Gareth Edwards (who made the effective and atmospheric low-budget monster/road movie Monsters) and some serious actors to give weight to the running and screaming. In the Philippines, two scientists (Sally Hawkins and Ken Watanabe) find two pods attached to a skeleton; one is ominously empty, and they take the other back to America for further analysis. Meanwhile, scientist Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston) has been desperately searching for the truth about a nuclear disaster that brought tragedy to his family, much to the chagrin of his son Ford (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a bomb disposal expert. Then giant monsters come in and wreck everything.
