Often called one of the best and most influential restaurants ever, El Bulli's staff didn't just cook food: they made art. Now closed, it was open for six months every year. During the other six, owner Ferran Adria and his team were hard at work creating the menu, and the film takes us inside this process. As many as 30 courses were served to just 50 diners lucky enough to get a table, and each mouthful was calculated to a bewilderingly precise specification. Top chefs Oriol Castro and Eduard Xatruch created the menu in a lab, freeze-drying, pureeing and dicing while Adria watched every action and tasted every step. Is El Bulli's ridiculously complex approach the future of fine dining or the result of a mad scientist gone one step too far?
