About Dallas Buyers Club
A drama based on the true story of Ron Woodroof, an AIDS patient in the 1980s who grew tired of waiting for effective treatment and began smuggling contraband drugs into the US from Mexico. Matthew McConaughey stars as Ron, an electrician and rodeo cowboy who contracts HIV after having unprotected sex with an infected drug addict. His friends and family snub him and despite bribing a hospital worker to obtain AZT, an experimental antiviral drug, his health begins to worsen. One day when he visits a Mexican hospital to source more AZT, a disgraced former doctor informs him that the drug is more harmful than useful and he would be better off with non-FDA-approved drugs. On taking his advice, Ron finds that his health improves. Eventually he sets up the Dallas Buyers Club with a transgender woman (Jared Leto) to make money and help fellow sufferers.
