About Captain Phillips
A tense drama based on the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the crew of the Maersk Alabama, which was the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. Family man Phillips (Tom Hanks) must pilot the Maersk on a dangerous ten day journey around the Horn of Africa. His crew seems relaxed and almost complacent whilst Phillips feels uneasy about emails alerting him to the possible presence of pirates. Meanwhile in a Somali village fisherman Muse (Barkhad Abdi) is ordered to lead a hijacking expedition out to sea by a local warlord. In two small skiffs, he and his band of men seem insignificant compared to the huge cargo ship. But the Maersk has no firepower, relying on water hoses to repel potential attackers. This defence fails and Phillips finds himself locked into a battle of wills with the desperate pirates.
