Brendan Gleeson re-teams with the man who directed him in The Guard for a sombre yet comedic take on faith and modern life in a small Irish community. He plays Father James Lavelle, a priest and inherently decent man who suddenly finds that he must deal with a violent threat along with the daily needs of his parishioners. One day while listening to confessions, someone explains that they were abused by a priest as a child and as retribution they plan to murder James in seven days. He is both scared and puzzled as he is not the culprit, but the unseen assailant claims that in murdering an innocent priest they will be making more of a statement. So James tries to comfort his fragile daughter (Kelly Reilly) and help his sometimes hostile flock while trying to figure out which one is the would-be murderer.
