Andy Serkis' directorial debut attempts to tackle the inspiring story of the Polio-afflicted Robin Cavendish but ultimately falls short, mired by its own twee, overblown sentimentality. Andrew Garfield portrays Cavendish, a man who is given 3 months to live due to his condition, yet defies all the odds to travel the world and become a poster boy mascot for the disabled. Unfortunately, the film is so encumbered by hamminess that it doesn't manage to successfully cultivate the Theory of Everything vibe it seems to so desperately crave.
