About 300: Rise Of An Empire
Hyper-stylised action hit 300 launched Zack Snyder's Hollywood career and was followed by a barrage of mythical sword-and-sandal epics filled with slow motion and six packs. Snyder turned down directorial duties this time but serves as writer and producer for this spin-off which takes place before, during and after the events of the first movie. Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) is in the middle of waging war against the Persians and tries to get the other Greek states to unite with him, so he will no doubt be the one spitting and shouting throughout to his muscled, sweating compatriots. The invading Persian army is huge in number and led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) who proved to be a powerful nemesis in the first film. Meanwhile, vengeful warrior Artemesia (Eva Green) commands the Persian navy.
