Bad Vibrations, Dimensions, LNZRT and SC&P collaborate to create a brand new, one day festival, Wide Awake, which will take place on Friday 5th June 2020 at Brockwell Park, London. The festival will focus on genres across leftfield indie, post punk, electronica, techno, jazz and more.

From some of the original founders of Field Day, LNZRT, and the creators behind some of London's most iconic, small music venues: MOTH Club, The Shacklewell Arms, The Waiting Room and Peckham Audio, this festival has been consummated through an adoration of music and a long history of ground-shuddering live shows across each of the sites.

Wide Awake delves into the underground scene to create a festival for music fans.

Featuring

Black Midi

Black Midi appearing at this event

Uncompromising but still melodic: strap yourself in for the experimental sound of maverick four-piece black midi. They met at the Brit School and built their reputation through fierce, driven gigs at Brixton’s Windmill, before supporting Shame and performing at SXSW – making a number of ‘best band’ lists – on their debut American tour. Their reference points include rapper Danny Brown, Death Grips, Deerhoof, Miles Davis and Talking Heads, and their sound has been described as ‘country twangs, ambient textures, funky basslines, industrial beats, and noisy riffs – sometimes in the same song’ (The Outline).

Boy Harsher

Boy Harsher appearing at this event

Boy Harsher is a dark electronic duo that produces gritty dance beats infused with ethereal vocals, creating a sound that is eerie, intense and incredibly danceable. Augustus Muller develops the underbelly of sound with minimal beats and grinding synths, where Jae Matthews whispers, screams and chants on top. Together, the music created is somewhere between industrial, drone and confessional storytelling. Muller and Matthews both have a strong background in film and their cinematic approach translates effectively in both their recordings and live performance.

Crack Cloud

Crack Cloud is a multimedia collective, comprising members from different cities, ethnicities and origins, who contribute to the sound, visual aesthetic and beyond – but their latest release, Anchoring Point, is helmed by seven key members. Taking its sonic influence from the likes of Gang Of Four, Fela Kuti and Talking Heads, its visuals from hip hop and the found footage aesthetic of the ‘90s, and its political ethos from thinkers like Malcolm X and Lydia Lunch, Anchoring Point is a barbed, lurching thing, a cacophony of punchy fragments, funk-laced bass riffs and experimental soundscapes. “We wanted to be expressive in a way that could be erratic but cohesive at the same time,” explains Choy. “Emotionally, it zig-zags. We wanted it to take a life of its own; a life in flux.”

Drab Majesty

A 'tragic wave' / goth band from Los Angeles. 'Drab Majesty is an inter-dimensional platform aimed at channeling aural and visual messages founded by a human being from Los Angeles in 2013. The human communes directly with it's spiritual muse/assumed alter-ego Deb Demure to demonstrate the power in relinquishing ownership to a divine design, thereby handing inspiration over to the spirit world - essentially serving as a contractor in business with the Collective Consciousness.'

Dream Wife

Dream Wife appearing at this event

Dream Wife started out as a fantasy… literally. Icelandic singer Rakel and British musicians Alice and Bella played their first show as part of a performance project at art school in Brighton. Stuck in dreams of 90s club kid nostalgia they continue on making music, embracing their love for edgy pop. Dream Wife name David Lynch's women as a big influence; 'powerful and seriously f***ed up'. They play with the aesthetics of the 1960's yé-yé girls movement, along with current influences such as Sleigh Bells, Le Tigre and Grimes. Dream Wife ooze with girl power; infecting the crowd with their trademark 'poolside pop with a bite.' The music juxtaposes simple pop hooks, beats, cutting riffs and dreamy vocals.
