Walton Folk Festival 2019: False Lights, Daria Kulesh, Trials Of Cato, Lukas Drinkwater, Edgelarks (Phillip Henry & Hannah Martin)
"Following the sell-out success of the first ever Walton Folk Festival, another amazing lineup of top folk and acoustic acts are set to light up the Riverhouse Barn on Saturday 4 May 2019 (Bank Holiday weekend).
Headlining the one-day festival in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, are False Lights – folk giants Jim Moray and Sam Carter’s band who produce ‘folk rock for the 21st century’.
The festival also features Daria Kulesh, Edgelarks (Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin), Trials of Cato, Lukas Drinkwater and Hannah Ashcroft. More young and up-and-coming acts will perform in the courtyard at the Riverhouse Barn – a beautifully converted 18th century barn which is now a thriving arts centre."

This project is the brainchild of finger-style guitar genius and singer-songwriter Sam Carter and folk revolutionary Jim Moray.
They’ve never stepped on stage together before and perhaps were considered musical strangers by most, but a shared love of folk and heavy guitar music, and a week of intensive writing in a log cabin in Lincolnshire produced a festival stage-filling, moshpit-inducing, ear-ringingly dynamic, blast of in-your-face indie attitude in the name of folk.
The False Lights sound has more to do with Radiohead than Steeleye Span, an explosion of loud, electric, guitar-driven folk for the 21st century.

The Trials of Cato formed in Beirut in the summer of 2015 and spent a formative year performing traditional music on the Lebanese music scene and developing their sound. Following their debut at Radio Beirut in September 2015, they went on to regularly fill some of Beirut’s foremost music venues. Since returning to the UK, their feet have hardly touched the ground as they are booked up at folk clubs and festivals across the country thanks to a formidable live reputation.

Solo artist, session bass and guitar player based in Exeter. Permanent member of 3 Daft Monkeys, Frootful and The Mighty Sceptres. Guitarist of folk duo with Jim Causley.
"Hard working multi-instrumentalist Lukas Drinkwater pops up all over the place, in trad and swing jazz bands, alongside folky singer/songwriters - plus he's even one of the 3 Daft Monkeys. But it's nice to give him a chance to just be himself with a guitar and a few of his own songs - so here he is." - John Blakely, Sheelanagig & The Canteen Venue, Bristol.

Phillip plays slide guitar, dobro, harmonica, beatbox harmonica & chatturangui. He is a figurehead for the next generation of English slide guitarists. His virtuoso playing encompasses 360 degrees of influence. He has studied the Delta blues bottleneck for many years and has developed a touch reminiscent of Ry Cooder, while his astounding harmonica technique is inspired by Sonny Terry.
Completing and complimenting this feast of music is Hannah, who is a fine fiddle and banjo player, as well as being a gifted vocalist and songwriter. Her interest in the traditional music scene around Devon (where she grew up) has led to a beautiful catalogue of songs that innovatively blend old traditions and new melodies.
