Despite growing up in the same picturesque village, Chris Davids and Liam Ivory, aka Maribou State, customarily ignored each other at school, but discovered their shared passion for music at university in Leeds and became firm friends. Since then they have steadily built a glowing reputation via their debut album, a string of well-loved EPs, and a fistful of remixes (Including Kelis, Lana Del Rey, and Ultraísta). Plaudits from the electronic press have flowed thick and fast alongside support from radio heavyweights: Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Annie Mac, Giles Peterson, and Pete Tong amongst others. Intrigued by the dynamics of electronic music for the dance floor as much as with the richness and human quality of live instrumentation and song craft, the have worked tirelessly to evolve and forge a unique, compelling and deeply soulful marriage of the organic and the synthetic, showcased on their debut LP, Portraits.

After DJing and working at various record stores around Berlin, and meeting many of the city’s other music nerds, Hunee began to produce his own tracks. Releasing across a variety of labels such as Prins Thomas’ Internasjonal, Rush Hour, Ostgut Ton, W.T., and Permanent Vacation, Hunee’s craftily-sampled tracks, such as Rare Silk and Brother are packed full of disco sensibility and dancefloor dynamism, falling timelessly between respectful homage and modern day revamp.

Alaskalaska are an outlier. In a culture where genre lines are increasingly blurred, the previously tribal worlds that divided music largely disbanded, the South London group, headed by Lucinda Duarte-Holman and Fraser Rieley, feel sent from a not-so-distant future – one where freeform expression trumps any need for categorisation. Singer, guitarist and principal songwriter, Lucinda formed the group back in 2016, introducing bassist and producer Fraser, to her friends Calum Duncan (guitarist), Fraser Smith (saxophonist), and Gethin Jones (drummer), they began melding their wares to “start a project where we could write and play music that we found fun,” Lucinda explains, “without having a boundary.”

Crazy P Soundsystem
Seven albums, a career spanning over 20 years and yet Crazy P remain stronger and more relevant than ever. Funny how the tides of time turn, and how the sounds of a typically British type of house and disco are now more du jour then ever before. Way before the rise in prominence of disco, house and soulful pop Crazy P have spearheaded the revival (and perpetuation) of these sounds since 1997.

Having been taught the ropes by her mother, from rhythm over musicality to a sense of humour and not taking herself too seriously, Adigéry got into music from an early age. Through mutual friends (after all Belgium is a tiny country) she was asked by the Soulwax brothers to lip-sync a song of theirs for the 'Belgica' soundtrack they were producing at the time. As soon as they heard her voice the acting job quickly turned into a studio session... and another... and another. The Dewaele brothers paired her with DEEWEE-regular Bolis Pupul and soon they started started working on a re-enactment of their mutual histories, resulting in lots of heart-to-heart confessions and a local brew by the name of ti'punch, not to mention two EP's for DEEWEE. Charlotte Adigéry's music making is all about playing around until she hits a nerve and something feel-good starts bubbling up - following that vein wherever it may lead. For eclectic as her music may sound, combining bits of smartphone-recorded conversation with synths as sticky as molasses, Adigéry's voice blends all the elements together in a chocolate and vanilla swirl of holistic beats.

Swedish left-field house producer Kornél Kovács creates bright and buoyant tracks that don't take themselves too seriously. Kovács was born in 1985 in Stockholm, where he was formally trained in music by day and exposed to his parents' record collection by night. It wasn't long before an appetite for electronic dance music began to emerge, quickly leading to his first gig at the age of 14. Kovács began his career spinning drum'n'bass, but he eventually lost interest and hung up the headphones for a few years. It wasn't until the mid-2000s, when he hit the legal age to enter clubs, that he began again, this time focusing on house.
