Fairport Convention are often credited with being the first English electric folk band. Formed in April 1967, with Simon Nicol, Richard Thompson, Ashley Hutchings and Shaun Frater, Fairport rapidly developed from playing cover versions of American 'west coast' style music to an individual style which melded rock music with traditional English tunes and songs. Bedevilled by numerous personnel changes they temporarily disbanded in 1979 but reformed in 1985. Since then, they have enjoyed stability and continue to tour and record regularly. Fairport Convention hold a coveted BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and their groundbreaking album Liege & Lief was voted 'Most Influential Folk Album Of All Time' by Radio 2 listeners.

Emily Barker’s latest album Sweet Kind of Blue was recorded at Sam Phillips Recording Service in Memphis with Grammy winning producer Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price) and an all-star cast of Memphis session players. The success of the album, with its seamless mix of soul, blues, country and folk influences, and the globe-trotting tours to support it helped land Emily the accolade of UK Artist of the Year at the recent UK Americana Awards held at Hackney Empire in London. Emily is perhaps best known as the writer and performer of the award-winning theme to BBC crime drama Wallander starring Kenneth Branagh. She has released music as a solo artist as well as with various bands including The Red Clay Halo, Vena Portae and Applewood Road (with whom she released a remarkable album of original songs recorded live around a single microphone, which was dubbed “flawless” by The Sunday Times) and has written for film, including composing her first feature film soundtrack (for Jake Gavin’s lauded debut feature Hector starring Peter Mullan and Keith Allen). Praise for Sweet Kind of Blue: “finally sets out her true claim for stardom” Q "the arrangements are exquisite and the clear love [Barker] has for this music brings its own integrity" The Times "the sweltering funk of Sunrise and the title track sound like lost Muscle Shoals gems” UNCUT 8/10

Matthews Southern Comfort
'Be in no doubt, this is no pale shadow of past successes, but the real thing. Matthews is a visionary leader with a canny sense for contemporary music. Based on the original MSC concept of outstanding material, earth shattering vocal harmonies and stellar musicianship, this new line-up is both passionate and inventive, coupled with the philosophy that true talent shines through regardless of name value. As before, it's a five-piece, democratic unit where all members are seasoned vocalists and contributing song writers'- Robin 2, Bilston.
