Caribou

The artist formerly known as Manitoba, offering up a likeable blend of electronica and sunshine pop. Their live set sees them deliver a carnival-esque whirl of ridiculous melodies, effusive noise, stampeding beats alongside furiously harmonised vocals. Two drummers, visuals and whirling guitars and keyboards create a claustrophobic, mesmeric soundscape akin to My Bloody Valentine and the sprawling, bucolic tour de force, like early Mercury Rev.

Father John Misty

Aka Josh Tillman, former drummer with Fleet Foxes. His music consists of such disparate elements as Waylon Jennings, Harry Nilsson, Arthur Russell and Roy Orbison. Lyrically, his absurdist fever dreams of pain and pleasure elicit, in equal measures, the blunt descriptive power of Bukowski or Braughtigan, the hedonistic philosophy of Oscar Wilde and the dried-out wit of Loudon Wainwright III.

Self Esteem

As Self Esteem, Rebecca Taylor has shaken off the shackles of her indie band past to become the unapologetic pop star she always wanted to be. With her statement debut Compliments Please – championed by The Guardian, DrownedInSound and most of millennial Twitter – she gave voice to the feelings of insecurity and misogyny-induced frustration that many of us face every day, emboldening a whole new audience with powerful, truth-telling lyricism that speaks to her love of rhythmic noughties pop and RnB. Her follow-up Prioritise Pleasure is set to do the same, shedding light on important issues around female autonomy, comparison culture and more, but always with an inimitable knack for relatable self-deprecation and snappy dressing, using her time on stage to create an immersive space of both catharsis and celebration. As Self Esteem, Taylor proves that we can all grow from what we go through, but that life is far too short not to embrace yourself in your most honest of forms – no apologies necessary.

Sharon Van Etten

Indie-folk singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten performs beautiful and powerful heartfelt songs. The Brookyln, New York artist's rise has seen her gain regular support from BBC 6Music and receive glowing reviews. "Etten and her band display a hypnotic, off-kilter shimmer like that which Throwing Muses once brought to the alternative rock of the late 80s" - The Observer.

Black Country New Road

London 6-piece who take their influences from post-hardcore outfits like Shellac, the experimental rock of Oxbow, the brass meets prog-punk of Cardiacs and Georgia the violinist's experiences in Klezmer groups. All this topped off by vocalist Isaac Wood sounding like Steve Albini meets Jarvis Cocker.
