Fronted by Pauline Black, they first hit the airwaves with 'On My Radio', followed by countless other hit singles. Mixing punk, ska and reggae, their debut album 'Too Much Pressure' successfully reflected the social and political issues of the early Thatcher years in Britain and gave a voice to disaffected youth across the racial divide. The Pearson siblings, dubbed the British Black Royal Family of Pop, and Britain’s answer to the Jackson Five by the media, burst onto the scene in 1983 and were managed by their father, Buster Pearson. After performing a sizzling rendition of a song named 'Problematic' for the BBC’s Pebble Mill at one Show the group signed with a major record label TENT/RCA and released their 1985 debut album 'Luxury Of Life' and the rest is, as they say, a phenomenal pop history. Renowned for their dynamic sound and fabulous dance routines they rocked the British and US Pop Charts in the 80s and became a great inspiration to many young people worldwide. Five Star were the youngest British group to have a number 1 album and the first group to achieve 7 consecutive hit singles from one album in the UK. They also broke Michael Jackson’s record of becoming the youngest group ever to top the British charts and the first Black group to top the UK charts in 1987.

Modern Romance emerged in 1981 from the remnants of UK punk band, the Leyton Buzzards. Their initial attempts to blend in with the new romantic wave were unsuccessful, although the connections they made on the London club scene during this time were to aid their developing sound. After a second flop, they introduced Jaymes' brother Robbie on keyboards, Paul Gendler on guitar, Andy Kyriacou on drums and crucially John Du Prez on trumpet. They quickly recorded 'Everybody Salsa', which gave them their first UK Top 20 hit and set them at the fore-front of the emerging Latin-American salsa craze which broke out that summer. In 2001 Andy Kyriacou reformed the band, joining the burgeoning 80's revival scene and whilst being the only original member, has put together a line-up of top flight musicians, to make Modern Romance the perfect 80's band for the 21st Century.
