Jah Shabby, or Barney as he’s more commonly known, is a writer who has gone out of his way to play records at people whenever possible, be they willing dancers or indifferent drunks. A resident at London’s infamous Rock’n’ Roll Soul, he found himself at a loose end when the night went into hibernation after a decade of dancing. Back and to the Left was the next move, his regular five-hour sets in East London born out of a love of electronic music, odd foreign records and early Simple Minds.
Fleeing Walthamstow after it succumbed to the double-pronged attack of craft beer and artisan bread, Barney’s Back and to the Left nights made the transition to Boxfrequency.fm. It was once described as “a two hour radio show on the third Wednesday of the month.”
Occasionally it ran to three hours.
Now, his nights have found a new home on the North Kent Coast, in Kent's Best Pub – Herne Bay's The Four Fathoms.

Best known as the head honcho of The Perfumed Garden stage at the Beatherder festival, John Tree's late night sets there have always drawn a loyal crowd.
His thirst for quirky events started in the 90s, with weekend-long barn parties at a friend’s remote small holding in Lancashire. They are still remembered with fondness and nostalgia, and helped form the template for the Perfumed Garden.
Since 2000, he has sporadically produced and remixed tunes under the names The Time Flies, Pilzin Sox, and John Tree. Over the years he has shared the decks with many great DJs, including Andrew Weatherall, Richard Norris, DJ Derek, Jerry Dammers, Unabombers, Norman Jay and David Holmes… but in the end, it’s all about love, and it’s all about friends.
Expect anything from African and Brazilian electronica, Reggae, Bass, to deep, hypnotic, mind-expanding grooves of many shades, mixed with a drummer’s love.

The Caulfield Beats are Lawrence Northall and Molly Dixon. This two-piece belongs to a generation of producers for whom music studios came in the form of illegal software torrents and production was strictly DIY. Harking back to the halcyon daze of 80s electro and acid house, the self-confessed 808 State fans use bangin' metronomic beats, stuttering vocal samples and all manner of synth noises to create a melodic delight. With live visual projections and already reputed for their visually immersive gigs, The Caulfield Beats are making us reconsider our traditional separations of dance music from live bands and in the process causing quite a stir.
