Gym Party: Made In China
These are the brains of Those Who Have Passed. Those who could not keep up. Those who lost, the disqualified, the eliminated-from-heats, group stages and knockout rounds. The dead: the dead-to-us-now.
Amidst the litter of brains of Those Who Have Passed, Jess, Chris and Ira vie for success. Gym Party is the new show from Made In China; at once a delicate and violent three-way contest and a hilariously confused call-to-arms. It will explore the psychology of winning and the nature of pride: the desire to be and get the most, in all its triumphant and ugly incarnations.
“Not since Forced Entertainment burst on to the scene almost 30 years ago has a company arrived with such a fully formed and distinctive voice”
Gym Party is presented here as a work-in-progress showing. Participation in awkward teenage dance following the performance is optional.
Made In China is the collaborative work of Tim Cowbury and Jessica Latowicki. They make visceral shows at the juncture of playwriting and live art, for audiences who are fans of neither and both.
Made In China are drawn to great stories but like to disrupt them with things like bad dancing, beer downing, interval training and downright lying. Each show makes its own rules. And each show aims to ask the audience difficult questions whilst giving them a really good time.
