The 2013 Birmingham International Tattoo

Experience the pageantry and spectacle of the massed international bands, massed parade of standards, exciting displays, featuring a spectacular grand finale plus much, much more.

The Birmingham Mail states “The Birmingham Tattoo has deservedly earned itself a reputation as the ultimate armed service spectacle. Even if you’re not a military buff there’s still plenty to enjoy at the event.”

For this year’s special event, the organisers have brought together military bands from Norway, Belgium, Slovenia and nearer to home our own forces including the Royal Air Force. Representing Norway will be the world famous Band and Drill Contingent of the King’s Guard, joining them will be the Royal Band of the Belgium Navy and the Slovenian Services Band, both well known for their marching displays across Europe. Nearer to home the Royal Air Force Band will demonstrate their musical skills in this special year which also marks the 70th Anniversary of the RAF Association. Representing the youth of the UK will be the Air Training Corps National Band and the National Youth Marching Band.

Complementing the music of the massed bands will be the thrills of the exciting displays including the Inter-Service Field Gun Competition which will prove how both sheer strength and agility are needed to control the heavy guns as they carry on a tradition that draws its origins from the Siege of Ladysmith during the Boer War. With one of the largest gatherings of Massed Standard Bearers from the Royal British Legion and other organizations plus the popular dog display and the Blue Falcons gymnastics display also taking part, there is something for all the family at the three hour event.

The Tattoo will culminate in a Spectacular Grand Finale featuring all performers in a spectacle of light and sound. They will be joined by the British Tenor Tim Pitman and the UK’s new singing sensation Rebecca Robinson in the special 25th anniversary finale. The event would not be complete without the ever-popular Closing Ceremony which will feature the Royal Air Force Cosford Queen’s Colour and Escort, the traditional Land of Hope and Glory, the Evening Hymn, the Lone Piper and some special surprises.
