The Pitmen Painters

The Pitmen Painters focuses on a group of Ashington miners in 1934, who decide to hire an art teacher named Robert Lyons to provide them with art appreciation classes in the evening. But this soon turns into a practical art project and the group set to work on their own pieces, which quickly find an audience in the art world.

In a few years their work is held by some prestigious collections and they are friends with some of the best known names in the industry. But they hold onto their origins and continue to work down the mine, ultimately considering what life they want to lead.
