Band leader Stefan Redtenbacher leads a world class quartet, with CVs to prove it, fronted by the mesmerising vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jana Varga. Collectively, they will be reimagining the magical songs of Joni Mitchell, so expect sometimes surprising yet always respectful interpretations of classic songs such as Big Yellow Taxi, A Case of You, Both Sides Now, The River, Woodstock, and many more.

This is a genuine artistic 'homage' to Joni's songs, reflecting her own remarkable quest for ongoing creativity with inspired recreations from her catalogue of best-known compositions — all with the implicit blessing of her own official website.

Citing a mixture of influences like classical music, songwriters such as Janis Ian, James Taylor, and the well-travelled folk of Paul Simon, Jana has her own distinct voice that continues to evolve.

Raised on the green outskirts of Bratislava (Slovakia), and born into a musical family, Jana was immersed in music from a young age. As a child, she was already performing traditional Slovak songs and went on to study classical music in Austria and France. In 2014 she became a flautist in the Janáek Philharmonic Orchestra in Czechia, when she decided to pursue the career of a singer-songwriter and moved to London.

Co-produced by Fred Mollin (Billy Joel, Jimmy Webb) and nominated in the Emerging Artist category of the British Blues Awards, (a testimony to its cross-genre appeal), Jana’s debut album, Foreigner Face (2022) was described as a “fascinating mixture of styles and very original” by Paul Sexton (BBC, Billboard) and “amazingly beautiful” by songwriting legend Janis Ian.

Jana’s subsequent headline tour introduced her music to a wider UK audience and saw her first international collaboration with the Varga Quartett Wien, a noted Austrian classical string quartet based in Vienna and led by her brother, Pavol.

Performances alongside platinum-selling artist Rumer and other esteemed vocalists have garnered Jana international acclaim. Notably, in late 2023, she graced the stage at the O2 Indigo as part of Rumer's band, captivating audiences both as an opening act and a key member of the ensemble.

Jana Varga

Jana Varga is a Slovak-born London-based singer songwriter. Her well crafted songs are at home in the broad Americana genre but their roots run much deeper. Jana’s natural musicianship is founded in her classical music training, folk influences such as Janis Ian and James Taylor, jazz and fusion. Her sense of harmony and melody comes from building on tradition while constantly looking for surprise and disrupting musical expectations. Having to ‘settle’ down in several countries throughout her life, her lyrics often reflect struggles and challenges when starting from zero in a new environment, creating new bonds and finding a community to belong to.
