The Making Of The Drum
Join the Scottish Chamber Choir for an exciting programme of music about music! Bob Chilcott's choral cantata for choir plus percussion is in five sections, based on poems by Edward Kamau Braithwaite.
It narrates the ancient and intensely spiritual ritual of drum making practised by certain African peoples. It is exuberant, rhythmic and hugely exciting.
To complement this piece, Britten's Hymn to St Cecilia and a selection of shorter works by Thomas Weelkes, Josquin Des Prez, Parry and others consider how music and ritual harmonise with nature.
Guest conductor is Steven Griffin, who will also present young musicians from George Watson's College.
