New Drama Double Bill - Coconut And The Lift

The Lift
Written by Thom McKeown • Directed by Noel Franson

Three young women, Angela, Clara and Jenny, have just left a business meeting in a high-rise office building and in so doing they enter the lift (elevator). A few seconds after the lift begins its descent from the 18th floor, it stalls and jams on the 17th floor.

As times passes, the claustrophobia of being trapped in a non-moving and locked enclosed space will allow the audience to engage in this process and perceive the environment to be real and credible. Several hours pass with heat rising and oxygen levels dissipating - and tensions, anger, fear, recriminations and anxiety affect the trio as the reality of their situation becomes more apparent – will they escape, be rescued or has fate something more terrifying in store?

Coconut
Written and Directed by Thom McKeown

Coconut played to hugely appreciative audiences and critics in Glasgow earlier in 2015 and is now being re-staged for Edinburgh theatergoers. The play is set within a West Yorkshire Police CID interview room in 1979. Michael Gallagher, an intellectual young man has been arrested and charged with the brutal murder of a black youth.

The entire play features only two characters, Gallagher and his 'interrogator' DS John Pearce. Circuitously in a psychological cat and mouse game, Pearce attempts to extract a confession from an equally devious and clever suspect.
