The ?Masters of Gilbert and Sullivan? Charles Court Opera will be touring a fresh and inventive take on HMS Pinafore in 2019, following a month-long London run. The earliest enduring success of Gilbert and Sullivan’s famous collaboration and a firm favourite with modern-day audiences, HMS Pinafore contains some of Sullivan’s sunniest music. Gilbert uses the strictly hierarchical society of life on board HMS Pinafore to satirise the rigidity of the British Class system.

With many well-known songs including?I am the Monarch of the Sea, I?m called little Buttercup?and?He is an Englishman,?this brand-new production promises an evening of rollicking choruses and tender tunes imbued with the unique wit and infectious energy of a CCO production. To be enjoyed by all ages.?

This production boasts eight first-class singers, with small orchestra in the original, colourful and tongue-in-cheek setting of a yellow submarine. Something of a homage to the high energy of the MGM musical era, the production captures the heart and humour of the comic masterpiece with a fresh and inventive design by Rachel Schmukler.?It is directed by the company’s Artistic Director, John Savournin, who recently staged?Trial by Jury?for Opera North?s season of ‘Little Greats’, and who is a regular visiting director for the National G&S Opera Company.
