Reinis Zarins - piano
London Philharmonic Orchestra

The makers of Brief Encounter knew what they were doing when they put Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto on the soundtrack. No composer had a more deeply romantic spirit, or knew how to express it with such opulence and ardour. Critics have called the young Latvian pianist Reinis Zari?š ‘electrifying’: who better to explore the dark passions of this hugely popular Concerto? And then Andrew Gourlay ventures off into the vast, storm-swept landscape of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade – a true Russian epic, filled with some of the 20th century’s grandest and most glorious melodies. Every performance is an adventure.
