A bittersweet comedy from Amanda Whittington, writer of Be My Baby.

Written by Amanda Whittington
Directed by Rebecca Dickinson

Set in 1953, in the two months leading up to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the play follows the fortunes of a group of factory workers. Based on true events, it takes place at the John Players Factory in Nottingham. The best employer in town where a job was a job was for life.

The factory girls come from different backgrounds and upbringings, united by the common workplace. Cynthia dreams of being a beauty queen, while Vee is adjusting to married life. Widowed Glad has a secret she shares with young supervisor Bill but when Mae starts at the factory, the secret may not be safe much longer.

This is a play about people coming together and being friends. The girls share a sense of community, going out together during the week and being there for each other, as they make their way through the happy moments and difficult times.

With Queenie surrounded by loyal Sir Melchett and Nurse Patsy, the Elizabethan court is a world leader in sycophants, backstabbers, plots and schemes and Edmund Blackadder is determined to be the centre of them all.
