This beautifully simple and accessible adaption, created by Jo Clifford for the bicentenary of Dickens' birth, brings the book thrillingly to life on stage.
When the orphan Pip meets the convict Magwitch in a graveyard and is forced to help him escape, his life takes on a series of unexpected turns. Brought up by his resentful sister, Pip is invited to the crumbling mansion of the mysterious Miss Haversham, where he falls in love with her adopted daughter, the beautiful but cold-hearted Estella.
Sent to London to become a gentleman by an unknown benefactor, the truth behind his change of fortune, once revealed, is not what Pip expects...
The play has thirty characters to be acted by a cast of 10 actors. We move from a village forge, to gloomy mud flats, to sparkling London society, to Mr Jaggers' austere lawyers' offices - even a barge floating through the mists of the river Thames.
The wonderful world of Dickens, together with his colourful characters, is all there!
This amateur production is presented by special arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
