John Metcalf - Cello Symphony
With its rich, sensual sound, there is surely no better instrument to convey the profound emotion of P?teris Vasks’s music than the viola. His new concerto, performed by the charismatic Maxim Rysanov is one of the highlights of this year’s Festival.
Concluding the concert, Metcalf’s radiant Cello Symphony, a work in which the solo instrument embarks upon a rhapsodic musical journey in the company of chorus and orchestra.
