Curate #WineGlass
A thrilling journey into minimalism and avant-garde with the music of Philip Glass and George Crumb.
The second in a new concert series in partnership with Tramshed Tech, Cardiff’s forward-thinking tech and creative workspace, #WineGlass will combine an exciting and diverse programme of music with film projections, in a beautiful former industrial space. The entire concert will be streamed online, broadcast live on the Sinfonia Cymru Facebook page.
We begin with Philip Glass’ Suite from ‘Bent’, written for the 1997 film directed by Sean Mathias. A change in tone takes us to the arresting and unconventional Black Angels by George Crumb, a work for string quartet with percussion and wine glasses (tuned and played). We then return to the work of Philip Glass with the String Quartet No. 5, a work of fluctuating moods, from sombre to vibrant and ultimately uplifting.
This concert is comprised of three sets of music. Each set will be approximately twenty minutes long, with a ten-minute interval between each set. Doors open at 8pm, music starts at 8.30pm.
