Amnesty International - Stand Up In The Park
Comedians stand up in the open air for human rights.
Amnesty International is having a laugh at this year’s Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival with a new comedy night. The human rights charity has teamed up with the city's Everyman Theatre to host four top comedians in the beautiful surroundings of Sophia Gardens. Stand Up in the Park will be a breath of fresh air for Cardiff's comedy scene and people looking for a novel evening of entertainment.
Amnesty International are using the evening to publicise the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian charity worker, currently in prison in Iran. She has family in south Wales, including her sister-in-law who is a GP in Cwmbran.
Nazanin was arrested at Tehran Airport in April 2016 while visiting family in Iran with her British-born daughter, Gabriella Ratcliffe, then just 22 months old. Nazanin was accused of plotting to topple the government in Tehran, but the official charges against her have not been made public. She has been sentenced to five years in prison.
