Sleeping in is giving in! So get yourself up bright and early for a Sunday morning concert of piano and percussion music. But don’t worry, we’re not going to trouble any sore heads. These minimalist soundscapes by John Luther Adams are the perfect soundtrack to an early start.
Adams himself says Four Thousand Holes is inspired by rock’n’roll. Not that you can tell immediately by listening to it. While it lifts the simple major and minor chords from popular music, they are constructed into a piece with unusual rhythms and ghostly acoustic auras.
The concert takes place in the foyer of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Siwan Rhys and George Barton are the musicians tasked with performing this technically challenging music on a Sunday morning.
The RWCMD café will be open for coffee beforehand and breakfast afterwards.
