Experimentica: Second Level Course
Following on from the success of our 2011 and 2012 courses, Chapter is delighted to announce a second level ‘An Introduction to Performance Art’ programme. This course is a follow-on opportunity for those who have attended the Level 1 ‘An Introduction to Performance Art’ course and who wish to continue their studies, or for artists who an interest in or some knowledge of the performative.
This eight-week evening course, devised and run by Davida Hewlett, will provide an opportunity to study, make work and discuss a contemporary understanding of performance art and its major themes. ‘Performance art’ as a term describes artworks that range from art actions, experimental performance, installation and live art, as well as dance and theatre. It continues to influence much of contemporary practice at venues like Chapter as well as galleries, museums, festivals and artist-run projects across the world.
‘An Introduction to Performance Art: Level 2’ has a practical emphasis, including task-based exercises and activities, one-to-one tutorials and group discussion. This provides an opportunity for attendees to bring and develop existing work, or generate new material in a playful and supportive environment. Informal lectures exploring artists’ works are shown and explained through a historical and thematic framework. There is a particular emphasis on exploring the relationship between fine art and performance, and its current trends.
Places on the course are limited and a commitment to attend the whole course is requested. For more information please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
