Following the latest announcement from the government ordering people to avoid social gatherings to limit the spread of coronavirus The Met will be closed to the public from Wednesday 18 March, initially for a period of 2 weeks (up to and including 1 April).

As a small, independent venue we were willing to do everything we could to carry on where possible, but we have to prioritise public health and the safety of our customers, users and staff.

Ticket-holders for cancelled events will be contacted with details of future dates or to process refunds. We will seek to rearrange many of these cancelled events, and thank ticket-holders for their patience in a challenging time: while we will work to process refunds for customers there may be delays due to high volumes.

This will be a rough period ahead for many people, and many businesses. The events industry in particular will face many challenges. It’s the origin of the ‘gig economy’, and if the gigs stop, so does the economy.

For venues our size, many gigs are a non-profit activity. The Met is run as a charity, and we’re determined to keep working to bring art, music and creativity to as many people as we can.

We’re going to keep supporting our industry for as long as we can during this period, and that means asking our customers to support us if they can.

If we say we’re hoping to re-schedule, you could choose to hold on to your ticket which will remain valid for the rearranged date. It will mean we don’t have to process a refund during this busy period.
You could choose to take your refund as credit rather than a direct refund, and use that credit to buy tickets for a future event (we have events on sale up until February 2021 already).
You might want to take a refund, but use part of that refund to make a donation to support The Met. It will be gratefully received as we work on dynamic ways to keep supporting our groups, artists and the wider community.
Finally, whether you’ve got tickets or not at the moment, you could choose to become a member of The Met from as little as £5 a month. The regular support of our members means a lot, and when things get back to normal you’ll get benefits like early access to lots of great shows.

Whatever you choose to do, we’re looking forward to getting together with you here again soon.

Stay safe.
