Adored film critic Mark Kermode has written a hilarious, self-deprecating, blissfully nostalgic memoir that charts his riotous attempts to become a popstar. It tells the story of how a spotty kid from North London, who built an electric guitar at school, wound up recording an album at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis. It follows Mark’s haphazard musical career, from inauspicious beginnings in 1970s church halls and youth clubs to performing live at the Albert Hall, via a mercifully short-lived stint in musical theatre and stand-up comedy.
