A night of percussive fireworks as the world’s most famous solo percussionist makes a long awaited return visit to St George’s. Accompanied by pianist Philip Smith, Dame Evelyn performs a vibrant contemporary selection, including the dazzling ‘View from Olympus’ by New Zealand composer John Psathas.
Originally premiered with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra in 2014, the work was originally conceived as a double concerto for percussion, piano and orchestra. Tonight you’ll experience it stripped back to its percussive bones, but with no less heart and soul.
