The ambitious and power-hungry Gibbs thinks he knows and so his boss, Roote, tasks his deputy with finding the culprit - and the new boy, Lamb, looks to be a likely scapegoat. But Roote is desperately losing control not just of his deputy, but also of the institution he manages, his mistress (Miss Cutts) and all sense of reality. How will the patients and the staff react to Roote's continued mismanagement?
