Born in Newport, Jonathan Edwards was brought up in Crosskeys in Monmouthshire where he still lives. In 2022, Jonathan won the Troubadour International Poetry Prize with his beautifully observed, nostalgic, tender poem, ‘My Grandfather’s Car’ and the Cannon Poets ‘Sonnet or Not’ Competition for his poem ‘Ghost Talking’. Jonathan has been winning awards throughout his career as a poet, starting with the Terry Hetherington Young Poets Award back in 2010. His first collection, My Family and Other Superheroes, won the Costa Poetry award and the Wales Book of the Year People’s Choice award.

His second collection, Gen, also won the Wales Book of the Year People’s Choice award, and in 2019 his poem about Newport Bridge was shortlisted for the Forward prize for best single poem. Jonathan has been a judge for the National Poetry Competition and is a former editor of ‘Poetry Wales.’ A highly regarded poetry tutor and mentor. Jonathan regularly runs courses for The Writing School Online.
