Stand Up for Ugly Animals: Simon Watt, Sara Pascoe, Bec Hill, Helen Arney, Dan Schreiber, Sarah Bennetto, Elf Lyons, Chris Dunford
A night of laughter and hilarity at Colston Hall, hosted by Simon Watt (Inside Nature’s Giants, the Infinite Monkey Cage), seeking to delve deep into some of the weirdest creatures on this earth.
Move away from the Panda, Tiger and Penguin and think ugly. No animal is too ugly to enter these doors – the floodgates have opened to a new era where ugliness rules!
Stand up for Ugly Animals is in association with The Ugly Animal Preservation Society, Wildscreen Festivals and the global conservation organisation WWF.
Age Guidance: 16+
Please note that the artists appearing may be subject to change.
Simon Watt is a biologist, writer, science communicator, comedian and TV presenter. He is a regular contributor to TV, radio and web and is perhaps best known as a presenter on the BAFTA winning documentary series Inside Nature's Giants and the Channel 4 special The Elephant: Life After Death.
He runs the Ugly Animal Preservation Society which is a comedy night with a conservation twist. It went on to find global fame/notoriety when it hosted an online campaign resulting in the election of the blobfish as the ugliest animal on the planet.
The society's aim is to use comedy to make some of Mother Nature's more
aesthetically challenged endangered species into stars.
'Had us crying with laughter' (BBC Focus Magazine).

Sara Pascoe is a British writer, stand-up comedian and actress. She has appeared in a number of television programmes - Campus, Live At The Apollo, QI, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Mock The Week among others - as well as an all-female sketch show and her own Edinburgh show, and runs comedy club The House Of Mirth.
Sara's stand-up is influenced by her joint favourite heroes, Jodie Marsh and Winston Churchill.
'Always intelligent and occasionally exquisite' (The Independent)
'Pascoe uses erudite references as just one strand of an offbeat worldview, offset by moments of gloriously deliberate dumbness and delivered with nothing less than full-megawatt charisma' (The Guardian)
'... defiantly idiosyncratic and highly accessible' (Evening Standard).
Sara Pascoe was named in Ents24's top 20 hardest-working comedians of 2016.

Australian-born and now London-based, Bec has gained a cult following in Australia, the UK and Ireland thanks to her award-winning solo shows. She has a talent for incorporating arts and crafts into her stand-up routines, creating a unique and unforgettable comedy style that she calls “paper-puppetry”.
Her one-liners regularly feature in “best joke” lists by “reputable” sources like The Telegraph, Dave, The Guardian, The Independent, Daily Record and Buzzfeed, which isn’t surprising, as she is the creator of the UK’s only pun-based comedy night, Pun Run.
‘Bec Hill and her side-splittingly funny stand-up routine are a joy to behold… you’ll fall in love with Bec’s excitable attitude and her witty optimism. Definitely a name to remember with a smile’ (Three Weeks Edinburgh).
‘Multi-talented with brilliant observational material’ (The Stage).
