The Brentwood Tattoo - a musical celebration
The term Tattoo originates from the 1600s and the thirty years’ war in the European Low Countries. Drummers from the fortress garrisons were sent out into the towns each evening to signal ‘doe den tap toe’ which means ‘turn off the taps’, the instruction to the innkeepers to stop serving beer and inform the soldiers that it was time to return to their barracks for the night. Today, Tattoos feature marching bands performing elaborate music and precision marching drill displays.
The Brentwood Imperial Youth Band is the largest and most successful youth marching band in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1990 by Mr John Wyndham MBE, the band embraces and champions the traditional British military marching band style and music that is renowned throughout the world. This summer, to celebrate the band’s 30th Anniversary year, they are hosting the Brentwood Tattoo.
Boasting an international line-up of marching bands, pipers, dancers and choir, the Brentwood Tattoo cast of over 300 performers will fill the auditorium like never before to make a truly unique 30th celebration event not to be missed.
