Mirga Conducts Mahler's Fourth: City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO), Mirga Grazinyte-Tyla, Marie-Christine Zupancic, Xavier de Maistre
A jingle of sleigh bells and a flurry of birdsong: Mahler’s Fourth Symphony begins like Mozart and ends with a child’s idea of heaven. But there’s a lifetime of emotion in-between. Mirga Gražinyt?- Tyla starts the concert in the Finnish forests, then offers a choice: something wholly new from one of Finland’s pre-eminent living composers, or Mozart himself, freshly performed by star harpist Xavier de Maistre and the CBSO’s Marie-Christine Zupancic.
CBSO+ 27 September, 6.15pm: CBSO violinist David Gregory offers a performer's angle on Mahler's most intimate symphony.
Founded in 1920, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has always had an illustrious career. In fact, the first concert was conducted by Sir Edward Elgar. The orchestra has grown into a 90-piece ensemble with a worldwide reputation.
