Join notorious and Midland Chamber Orchestra for a special performance of the Duruflé Requiem – a profoundly beautiful ethereal piece – in the atmospheric setting of St Mary’s Acocks Green.
Composed in 1947 in memory of his father who died during the Second World War, the work is uniquely personal and reflective. Subtle rhythms and fluid lines of Gregorian chant permeate the whole piece, and the piece, and the result is a sublime musical expression of mourning and consolation.
The rich orchestration will be brought to life by Midland Chamber Orchestra, who will also perform an elegant classical programme – from the stately and elegant dance suite of the Pavane and Choconne by Purcell, to the dleivarte and lyrical Sicilienne by Fauré.
Mulled wine an mince pies will be available to purchase during the interval.

Notorious was formed in 1997 by Music Director Clare Edwards to make high-quality choral music that is accessible and can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of background or previous experience. Since 1997 the choir, based in Birmingham, has grown from around 14 rather nervous singers to the 35-strong, confident choir that you hear today. One of the main reasons for starting the choir was to do things differently from other choirs. As a result, weekly rehearsals are deliberately fixed to fall on different days of the week and there are no auditions. The broadest range of repertoire is tackled and performances take place in unusual venues, often with a number of bar breaks. Notorious is probably best known for the wide range of repertoire that it performs, from Britten to the Buggles and Rutter to Radiohead. 2011 saw the choir deliver a matinee children’s programme of popular tunes including The Bare Necessities and You’ve Got a Friend in Me, then a gear-shift in June to sing music from thriller and horror films as part of the Electric Cinema‘s festival Shock and Gore, before finishing the year by partnering with the Harborne Orchestra for a performance of Mozart’s Requiem. Notorious has performed in venues ranging from Centenary Square, pubs and art galleries in Birmingham to a whiskey distillery in Northern Ireland and street corners in Cologne
