Sainsbury's Birmingham Grand Prix
The Sainsbury’s Summer Series will kick off in style on 7th June as the world’s best athletes come to Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium for the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix.
Olympic champion and 800m world record holder David Rudisha has already confirmed that he will be competing at the prestigious meet.
Last August, GB & NI’s heroes from the European Championships in Zurich returned home and put on a great show for the West Midlands crowd at the 2014 Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix. Mo Farah, who set a British record in the two miles, and Lynsey Sharp in the 800m were amongst the British winners whilst other victorious athletes from across the globe included high jump star Mutaz-Essa Barshim, shot putter Valeria Adams, Kenyan middle distance runner Asbel Kiprop and sprinter Kemar Bailey-Cole.
Part of the prestigious IAAF Diamond League series, athletes will be able to win points in their event in the race for the Diamond League trophy, awarded to the most successful athlete in each event over the course of the 14 Diamond League events throughout the summer. An array of international and British stars can be expected for the curtain raiser for the 2015 season on British soil.
