Dear Serge
Dear Serge is a homage to the forward-thinking and innovative mind of architect Serge Chermayeff who, with Erich Mendelsohn, won the competition to design the Modernist De La Warr Pavilion in 1935.
Based on the same pioneering principles that governed that original concept of the building, Dear Serge is a series of evenings celebrating the best new thinking within contemporary music, spoken word, sound and visual arts.
Extending the Pavilion’s commitment to interdisciplinary working, the Dear Serge events will champion groundbreaking and experimental artistic production from across genres and generations. The events will provide a unique opportunity to experience exciting and challenging art throughout the iconic building. This programme – to be extended over two years – is made possible by the generous support of the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
Dear Serge will launch on Saturday 20 April 2013 with a programme especially created for the day around the concept of Synthesis : the composition or combination of parts or elements so as to form a whole.
The programme will include :
Facing Ron Geesin
Ian Helliwell : Practical Electronica
Ellen Southern : At Her Music
Spirit of Gravity: Electrocreche
SafeGrav Orchestra Featuring Video Synthesis by Bartosz Dylewski
