Seaspeak is a project conceived and created by songwriter, percussionist and guitarist Joe Danks based on the collection of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. The project was commissioned by The English Folk Dance and song society and features some of the UK's leading folk musicians.
'Working closely with The National Maritime Museum was been a great honour and privilege. The collection at the Museum and in The Caird Library are the richest stimulus imaginable for a songwriter and arranger, and I feel honoured to have recorded songs old, new and previously undiscovered for this project.'
Seaspeak is an album created and conceived at the museum and recorded over two days in The Orangery at The Queens House and was first performed live in a sold out gig aboard The Cutty Sark in 2019. In 2020 Seaspeak will hit the road for a short concert series. Expect songs of sailors, ships and war presented in a contemporary and unique new way with fiddle, hurdy gurdy, accordion and more. Not to be missed!
