Powder Her Face
Powder Her Face
by Thomas Adès
In 1963, Britain is rocked by a sensational sex scandal.
A famous aristocratic socialite is plunged into the unforgiving world of tabloid journalism. How did it come to this - and where will it end?
A worldwide hit since it was first performed, and now a modern classic, Powder Her Face is an acerbic black comedy recounting the sordid affairs and scandalous divorce of the infamous Margaret, Duchess of Argyll. Northern Ireland Opera and Opera Theatre Company present the Irish première of this extraordinary modern opera, written by Thomas Adès, one of the greatest living composers of the 21st Century.
Directed and designed by the award-winning Antony McDonald (‘One of the wittiest and most visually alert designer-directors around’ - Opera Now) (The Importance of Being Earnest), Powder Her Face stars Northern Ireland’s leading soprano Giselle Allen (Tosca, Salome) as the Duchess, alongside Adrian Dwyer (Salome), Stephen Richardson (Turandot, The Magic Flute), and Irish soprano Daire Halpin (Orpheus in the Underworld).
Irish première.
A co-production between Northern Ireland Opera and Opera Theatre Company.
Contains adult material. Suitable for ages 16+
